Anne Czichowsky machte sich einen Namen durch internationale wie nationale Preise (u.a. Landesjazzpreis BW 2011) und löste für ihre Konzerte und ersten CDs ein großes und durchweg begeistertes Echo aus. Jetzt präsentiert sie mit ihrem hochkarätigen Quintett bereits das zweite Album, „The truth and the abstract blues“, dass im März 2014 auf Double Moon Records erschien.

Wer Anne Czichowsky kennt, weiß dass sie sich nicht als Solistin vor die Band stellt, sondern sich vielmehr als fünftes Instrument in die Band integriert. Sie sucht stets die Konversation und Interaktion mit ihren Musikern und diese wiederum finden viel Raum für solistische Highlights. Mit Thilo Wagner am Klavier, Martin Wiedmann an der Gitarre, Axel Kühn am Bass und Matthias Daneck am Schlagzeug begegnen sich hier vier Musikerpersönlichkeiten, die sowohl als dialogfähige Einheit agieren, als auch als virtuose Solisten in den Vordergrund treten. Als special guest ist der Trompeter Christian Meyers zu hören.

Der Jazz-Gesang (und nicht nur der Gesang) hat sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten deutlich gewandelt. Er beweist eine besondere Fähigkeit des Jazz, der wie nur wenig andere Genres neue Strömungen, Stilrichtungen und –techniken aufnimmt, integriert und zu etwas Neuem amalgamiert. Gelegentlich wird dabei auch der Bezug zu den Wurzeln verloren. Immer wieder aber betreten Künstler die Szene, die das Eine tun, ohne das Andere zu lassen. Das Anne Czichowsky Quintett kann man zu den zeitgenössischen Meistern dieser Disziplin in Deutschland (und darüber hinaus) zählen. Das Entspannte und doch Antreibende, das dem Swing so eigen ist, wird von diesem Quintett ausgiebig zelebriert.

Nebst Eigenkompositionen hat Anne Czichowsky auch auf diesem Album wieder viele Instrumentaltitel und -soli betextet wie Oliver Nelson's 'Blues and the abstract truth’ oder auch die wunderschöne Komposition „Idle moments“ von Duke Pearson.

Anne Czichowsky made a name for herself thanks to international and national prizes and awards and triggered an enthusiastic response to her concerts and first CDs. In 2014, she already presents the second album with her top-class quintet. „The truth and the abstract blues“ was released on Double Moon Records.

Who has seen Anne Czichowsky performing, knows that she doesn’t place herself as a soloist in front of the band, but that she loves melding with the band. She sees herself as a fifth instrument, constantly seeking the conversation and interaction with her musicians. In turn, her musicians find a lot of space for soloistic highlights. With Thilo Wagner on piano, Martin Wiedmann on guitar, Axel Kühn on bass and Matthias Daneck on drums, an encounter of four musical personalities takes place. They act as an interoperable entity and also appear as outstanding soloists. Christian Meyers from Berlin appears as a special guest on trumpet.

Jazz singing (and not only singing) has changed considerably over the past decades. This proves the ability of jazz to integrate new trends, styles and techniques and combine them into something new as only few other genres can. At times, the reference to the roots is also lost or even ignored. However, artists appear on the scene time and again, who do the one without leaving out the other. The Anne Czichowsky Quintet is one of the contemporary masters of this discipline in Germany (and beyond). It celebrates the relaxed but driving sound, which is so particular to swing jazz. In addition to original compositions, Anne Czichowsky wrote again lyrics on instrumental compositions such as Oliver Nelson's 'Blues and the abstract truth’ or on a scat solo by the great Chet Baker on “But not for me”. The “Anne Czichowsky Quintet” offers an exciting musical performance in a programme, which leaves nothing to be desired neither by those who love vocal jazz nor by fans of instrumental jazz.
